License-verified Medicare agents

Licensed Medicare Agents — Verified Through NIPR, Not Self-Reported

When an agent tells you they're licensed, that's a claim. When we tell you, it's been confirmed through NIPR or the state Department of Insurance — in every state you need them active. No surprises after you've already started the contracting process.

Why licensing verification matters

The number one problem with hiring from job boards.

Job boards don't verify anything. An agent can claim to be licensed in 20 states and have an active AHIP cert — and none of it gets checked before their résumé lands in your inbox. You inherit all of that verification work. Amerance does it before you're ever in the picture.

NIPR confirmation

We verify each agent's license directly through the National Insurance Producer Registry or the state DOI — not by asking them to upload a PDF.

Multi-state active status

We confirm the license is active in every state you need, not just the agent's home state. A lapsed non-resident license is a common hidden issue.

License type match

We confirm the agent holds the right lines of authority for the products you offer — life and health, variable products, or specific state endorsements.

Current plan year AHIP

Medicare Advantage requires current-year AHIP certification. We verify it's done — and confirm a path to completion if AEP is still months away. See our AHIP-certified agents page for details.

Licensing questions

What agencies ask about Medicare agent licensing

What is NIPR and why does it matter?

NIPR — the National Insurance Producer Registry — is the central database for insurance producer licenses in the U.S. It's the authoritative source for whether a license is active, what lines of authority it covers, and which states it's valid in. We use NIPR directly rather than relying on agent-submitted documentation.

Can an agent be licensed in multiple states?

Yes — most experienced Medicare agents hold non-resident licenses in multiple states beyond their home state. We verify the license is active in each specific state you need covered, not just the agent's home state. Non-resident licenses require separate applications and renewal fees, so they're worth confirming individually.

What lines of authority do Medicare agents need?

Medicare Advantage and PDP agents typically need a Life and Health license (or a Health-only license, depending on the state) and current AHIP certification. For ACA/marketplace products, requirements vary by state. We confirm the correct lines of authority before matching any agent to your role.

How current does AHIP certification need to be?

AHIP certification is plan-year specific. An agent certified for 2024–2025 is not automatically compliant for 2025–2026. We verify current-year certification — or confirm a clear path to completing it before AEP if the new year's training hasn't yet opened.
